A TERRIER missing for 19 days on Helvellyn has been rescued after a search team heard barking coming from a steep crevice on the mountain.
‘Teddy’ disappeared on August 2 and had been the subject of an extensive search by volunteers. Almost three weeks later, a search team heard barking coming from Dry Gill and located the dog stranded in difficult terrain.
Because of the nature of the location, Keswick Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) was called to assist.
Teddy appeared to have no obvious injuries, although he had lost a considerable amount of weight during his time stranded in the crevice. Seven members of the rescue team were involved in bringing him down, with the operation taking three and a half hours.
He was given a small amount of food before being safely secured in a rucksack for the journey to Swirls car park, where he was reunited with his owner and taken to a vet for a check-up.
“The team are absolutely delighted to share this update, as the news of this missing dog had deeply affected so many people across our local community,” said KMRT.
“A remarkable outcome after nearly three weeks on Helvellyn, and a huge well done to everyone who kept searching and never gave up on Teddy.”
After some check-ups by a veterinarian, he was reunited with his owner.
