A NIGHT of learning about the universe and stargazing in Grasmere awaits anyone keen to explore the wonders of the winter night sky on Friday January 17.
Astronomy experts from the National Trust will take visitors on a whistle stop tour of the universe on the big screen to learn about stars, planets and galaxies before heading outdoors at Allan Bank. Weather permitting, those taking part will then be using telescopes and binoculars to go in search of sparkling star clusters, distant galaxies and some giant planets.
Priced at £15 per person (£5 for children aged 12 and above), the event can be booked here. Those with children under 12 are recommended to join the family-orientated session taking place earlier in the evening at Fell Foot.
If the weather is poor or cloudy, the National Trust say the event will still go ahead, and its astronomers will instead take more time with the virtual tour of the universe on the screen.
National Trust event notes:
- Please park in the village and make your way up the driveway to Allan Bank. Members of our team will be there to meet you and direct you from here.
- Bring a torch and binoculars if you have them. Please bring warm clothing. Please also wear suitable footwear for walking on a footpath which is well graded but slightly rough in places.
- The venue is wheelchair accessible. The outdoor part of the evening involves a 50m walk on well graded footpath. We can accommodate those with accessibility needs if we know in advance.
- Aimed at adults & children over 12. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
- Warm drinks (tea/coffee/hot chocolate) and biscuits will be available throughout the evening.
