Mum-of-two breaks Three Peaks running record in memory of friend

A MUM-of-two from Kent has smashed the women’s record for completing the Three Peaks Challenge on foot – running between all three summits and covering more than 425 miles in just five days and 21 hours.

Trish Patterson, 41, took on the enormous challenge in memory of a close friend who recently passed away, raising funds for the mental‑health charity Mind Over Mountains.

Her route linked Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Yr Wyddfa, climbing more than 10,000 metres of elevation along the way. She ran through day and night, surviving on barely 90 minutes of sleep per night.

“It was brutal,” said Patterson, from Hythe.

“There were moments where I just had to turn my brain off and keep moving. But the support from people along the way kept me going.”

That support came from all directions – including strangers who handed her ice lollies as she passed through villages and towns.

“The kindness was overwhelming,” she added.

“It reminded me how much community and connection matter, especially when you’re doing something this physically and emotionally demanding.”

Despite the intensity of the challenge, the endurance athlete said the experience was deeply meaningful.

“I did this for my friend, and for everyone who’s struggling. Being outdoors, meeting people, and pushing myself – it all helped me feel connected again.”

After now setting the new record, Patterson says she’s looking forward to slowing down.

“I’m going to rest, do some park runs, and get beat by small children and pensioners,” she beamed.

Her achievement has already inspired thousands online, and donations to Mind Over Mountains continue to rise. If you’d like to celebrate the incredible achievement and support her fundraiser, there’s still time to donate here… Patricia Patterson is fundraising for Mind Over Mountains
