MONTANE’S Alpine 850 Nano – part of its AW24 collection – was the first Montane jacket to feature ExpeDRY, and it has quickly become a favourite for its exceptional performance in the mountains.
Now, the UK-based outdoors clothing and equipment brand has revealed that, starting with the AW25 collection, all Montane down jackets will be equipped with ExpeDRY down insulation featuring microscopic gold particles fused into the down clusters .
Montane is the first brand to adopt this revolutionary technique across its entire range of down jackets.

The Alpine 850 Nano combines ExpeDRY down with strategically placed synthetic insulation in high-moisture areas. This combination provides even more warmth for the weight and ensures that you stay dry and comfortable in the most demanding environments.
Down has long been considered the benchmark in insulation for its superior warmth-to-weight ratio and remarkable compressibility. However, traditional down insulation struggles in wet conditions, losing its loft, structure, and heat-trapping properties if wet, and will take longer than synthetic insulation to dry.
ExpeDRY has been developed to close this performance gap by infusing gold into the down.
The particles create an electrostatic shield that prevents moisture from being absorbed, allowing the down to remain dry and efficient for longer periods. As a result, ExpeDRY down is able to stay warmer, drier, and more effective, even in high-humidity conditions, and will dry out faster if it does get wet.
Key Benefits of ExpeDRY Down:
- Prevents the down from absorbing moisture when you’re active in the mountains
- Stops water vapour within the down turning into water droplets
- Keeps you comfortable using technology that will last for the lifetime of the product
- Dries faster if it does get wet
- Makes home laundry easier with and quicker drying times
- Gives higher performance with easier aftercare.

Sounds crazy, but I’m all for it if the technology works and does what it says it does.
