FOLLOWING several years of annual decline, Go Outdoors has revealed it is back on a profitable course once more.
The JD Sports-owned retailer posted a £9 million pre-tax profit for the year ending February 2025, buoyed by the opening of 27 new stores and an apparent renewed appetite for adventure in the UK.
Despite the expansion, the company trimmed its workforce, citing rising wage bills and tax pressures.
The company has not disclosed the exact number of job losses for the latest financial year, but previously reduced its workforce from 2,534 to 2,382. That’s a cut of 152 jobs in the prior year, and further reductions have since followed.
No official statement has been made by the firm.
Go Outdoors was founded in 1969 under the name Camping and Caravanning Centre (CCC) in Sheffield. It quickly became a landmark for Yorkshire’s outdoor community. It is now headquartered in Bury, Lancashire.
The first official Go Outdoors-branded store opened in 2004 in Coventry, which remains one of its flagship locations.
