FEARS are growing for two highly experienced climbers who have been missing in the Himalayas for two days.
Fay Manners (pictured left in main image) and Michelle Dvorak – both elite alpinists – last made contact through an SOS message to base camp saying they were stranded after one of their packs containing vital equipment fell into a deep gorge on Chaukhamba III in India’s Garhwal Himalaya.
UK climber Manners, 37, and her 31-year-old American friend Dvorak set out to reach the 6,974m peak on September 15. Both were reported missing on Thursday.
Two search Indian Air Force helicopters have been scouring the area on Friday and Saturday, but have found no trace of the missing mountaineers.
It is understood the search will resume on Sunday morning.
