DURSTON’S much-anticipated ultralight X‑Dome Pro 1+ goes on sale today.
The Canadian manufacturer has built a reputation for thoughtful, engineering‑led design, and the new model looks like it’ll be continuing that pattern.
The X‑Dome Pro 1+ is positioned as a solo shelter with a little extra breathing room – the “1+” designation signalling that it’s not a coffin‑tight ultralight experiment, but a tent designed for hikers who want space for gear, wet kit, and the ability to sit up in comfort.
Durston’s product notes emphasise stability and simplicity, with a DAC pole architecture creating a true freestanding pitch and a Dyneema Composite Fabric fly offering the familiar mix of low weight and high tensile strength.
Dyneema freestanding tents are still rare. They’re difficult to design, expensive to manufacture, and notoriously unforgiving when it comes to structural geometry. It’s also one of the few new tents this season that feels genuinely newsworthy, not because of the usual marketing noise, but because of the engineering challenge it’s attempting to face head-on.
