MISSING climbers Fay Manner and Michelle Dvorak are understood to have been located and are currently being escorted down from Chaukhamba III where they were reported stranded on Thursday.
Fears for the pair of highly experienced alpinists were growing after they last made contact through an SOS message to base camp saying they were in serious trouble after one of their packs containing vital equipment fell into a deep gorge on the mountain in India’s Garhwal Himalaya.
UK climber Manners, 37, and her 31-year-old American friend Dvorak set out to reach the 6,974m peak on September 15.
Two Indian Air Force helicopters soured the area on Friday and Saturday, but found no trace of the missing mountaineers. The aircraft were due to resume on Sunday morning.
However, an hour ago, climbers Iker and Eneko Pou told ExplorerWeb that a French party had reached the women.
It is believed both Manners and Dvorak have descended to 5,300m with their rescuers and will attempt to continue heading down the mountain in order to find a safe altitude for helicopter evacuation.
The four members of the ‘Groupe Militaire de Haute Montagne of Chamonix’ also reported Manners and Dvorak were in good health.
