BREAKING NEWS: Helicopter crew find missing journalist Alec Luhn

NORWEGIAN rescue teams say they have found Alec Luhn – an award-winning environmental journalist who has been missing in Folgefonna national park for several days.

It is understood the 38-year-old had a broken femur, and was described by first responders as ‘seriously injured, but not critical’.

“He has been found, conscious, and taken by helicopter to the Haukeland hospital. We are very happy,” said local police chief Øystein Torsnes.

Search crews were out in force yesterday but last night reported no trace of Alec Luhn – an American citizen living in London, and an experienced hiker and outdoorsman – who is believed to have gone missing while hiking.

He last made contact with his wife, Veronika Silchenko, on Thursday July 31 while he was in Odda, in southwestern Norway. The alarm was raised on Monday night when he failed to board a flight back from Bergen to London.

Authorities in Norway said the weather during that period had been ‘challenging’ due to high winds and rain, but a weather window had opened this morning that would allow for an extended effort.

Mr Luhn’s wife will be flying from London on Thursday morning to see her injured husband.

“I think it’s a miracle. I’m so grateful to all the people who were involved in the rescue,” she said earlier.

“It’s the best day of my life.”
